Julia Davies - Administrative Director
Born in Pontypool, Julia trained at Elmhurst and the Royal Ballet School. She danced professionally throughout the UK before returning to South Wales to teach dance and drama for Gwent Young People’s Theatre and schools in Gwent. She has appeared in programmes for BBC TV and is a founder member of the company.

George Davis-Stewart - Company Stage Manager
After a degree and P.G.C.E. In English and Drama, George straightway entered theatre with the crew of Scottish Opera. There followed stage management in Rep. at the Citizens’ Theatre, Glasgow and a subsequent freelance pathway with many levels and forms of stage and event management, from Stratford East, Royal Court and West End, through Reps. in Watford and Northampton, to national touring. Touring abroad has been complemented by supervision of visiting tours by foreign companies. He has worked with Made in Wales, Music Theatre Wales, Brith Gof and The Centre for Performance Research before most recent work with Spectacle, and now Gwent Theatre. Here, he is pleased to be in his sixth glorious year, contributing also to tuition for Gwent Young People’s Theatre

Jain Boon - Director, Junior Group
Originally from Blackpool, Jain trained at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. She has toured extensively with, amongst others, Theatr Powys, New Perspectives and Quicksilver Theatre. She has also played ‘Trafford Tanzi’ with Durham Theatre Company touring to bloodthirsty wrestling fans in the North East. Jain has been a core company member of Gwent Theatre for the past thirteen years and has been involved in many productions as Actor, Devisor and Director. She also teaches and directs with the Gwent Young People’s Theatre. In 2000 Jain cycled 500 kms around the Nile Valley for Mencap.

John Lovat - Director, Junior Group
John Lovat has worked in Theatre and Education since 1977, when he helped to found 'FairPlay', the first ever Theatre In Education company to tour the South West of England. He first came to Wales in 1983 to join Gwent Theatre, where he worked for many years as an actor, director writer and tutor. He has also worked in Television and Radio and in 1996 moved into teaching. He now teaches English and Performing Arts at Crickhowell High School and maintains his contact with the Gwent Theatre Company by working as a freelance tutor for the Junior Youth Theatre. John has lived in Abergavenny since 1984.

Gary Meredith - Director, Senior Group
Born and brought up in Tredegar, Gary trained for the theatre at Rose Bruford College and has worked in most forms of theatre, TV, radio and film. He is a founder member of Gwent Theatre and since 1976 has had a hand in devising, writing, directing and performing in over 110 productions. Television work includes That Uncertain Feeling, I Was Born in Rhymney, Bowen a’i Bartner and Knucklehead, and he won critical acclaim for his performance as Tom Perry in Funny Boys for BBC Radio. He also teaches and directs for Gwent Young People’s Theatre.

Stephen Badman - Director, Senior Group
Born and brought up in Blaenavon, Stephen trained at The Rose Bruford College. He was a founder member of Gwent Theatre in Education but left in 1977 to pursue a career in education. He now works as a storyteller and is currently translating the works of Evald Tang Christensen, a Danish folklorist. He also teaches and directs for Gwent Young People’s Theatre

Ken Caswell - Guest Director, Senior Group
The last time that I worked with GYPT was during my final year at Drama School in 1967, when I directed Saunders Lewis’ play Amis and Amile. Little did I think then that I would be back to work with the Company again in 2006.
